| Well, I was wondering what width people would prefer on the forums. I don't know many people that have a monitor that's only 800px wide, so would 1024 work better for everyone? I want to work on a nice animated banner for the top, but I need to know final dimensions first.

| I voted 800. You have to remember, not everybody has a monitor that can handle 1024. Hell, some of don't have HDTV's and we are a gaming clan. I think it is safe to say that an even larger amount of people here will have out of date monitors.
At home - no problem, at work - Big problem.
I think we need to have a set size that is friendly to everyone.
800 FTW!!!

| You can always make it a split. like, 900px. For me it's just annoying because 800 is half the screen or less.

| Voted 1024 because I always run my res with at least 1280 width, and have the browser windowed at 1024 (roughly). I can run 19xx width on my PC, but thats another story.
I really don't think very many people run reses lower than 1024 these days. 1024 is the absolute minimum standard i'd say.

| Well, at home I run 1440x900 but I never run Full Screen for my web browser.
Vision - Do you really run your browser at full screen?
What a waste of space! I usually have multiple apps going. The only thing I run full screen is PS and that's only because I have multiple pics I am editing.
Besides, I am not the only one here viewing the website. I still say it is better to optimize the site for everyone, not just those with HD monitors.

| You guys know better....as IT, networking, programming students, etc. you know you always go with the lowest and slowest possible when creating a program for public use. It's not about what you have it's the visitors to your website or the community using your forum. Check to make sure it's compatible with ever browser you can, and always expect someone to show up with the most out of date software there is. You accomodate them by making sure he has a great experience just like the guy with the latest toys....i.e. Vision!

| 1680 width FTW?
For some reason the background we have really draws my eyes away from the center area. It's too bold, or maybe too dark. Your eye follows darker colors first, so maybe we should check that out?

Interseptor: No, I don't run a full screen browser. I run my browser at about 1000 pixel width, and I still have 200 pixel width left for Adium (my multi-client chat program). When I get my macbook pro I might run it at 1440 if I get the 17 inch.

True, even the shittiest monitors bought today have at least 1024, but not the shittiest monitor still being used today.
Not to mention those like myself who are anti full screen. For instance, my PC at work, the one I use most often to visit BBF, has a max res of 1024. But I don't want to be forced to view the site full screen. The 800 is nice because whether I am at work or at home, I can view the site no problem. (or side to side scrolling.)
And seriously, Klown is right, you always design a site to accommodate the worst equipment possible. Can anyone show me a professional site that requires 1024 resolution to view? (I highly doubt it.)
